What does “Cultura Inquieta” mean exactly? Where does the name of the platform actually come from?
Friends, it’s not easy to translate into English and there is no direct translation that captures the immediate essence.
Cultura Inquieta could be translated as culture as a living thing, in constant motion without fear of exhibiting new art or giving a platform to new voices.
It could also be translated as a condition that gets you jumping out of bed every morning with the enthusiasm to take pleasure in all the beauty that real life has to offer us, from a bondage photo by Nobuyoshi Araki to a watercolour by Paul Klee or a glass of wine to a bin full of rubbish!
Cultura Inquieta integrates and combines, in essence, everything out there that is artistically moving.
We at Cultura Inquieta dedicate ourselves to, basically, having fun.
We could go on and on pseudo intellectualising about our exquisite taste in art, or about how art endows the society in which we live with its benefits. However, given that we are clear on both of these points, we simply accept the fact that we like having fun, being moved. Furthermore, holding that art and culture can be decidedly fun, even moving, we practice what we preach.
We are equally of the opinion, of course, that each diverse artistic language is a communicating vessel. If you enjoy music, then in the same way you will enjoy cinema, street art or theatre. With respect to art there is, fortunately, no exclusivity. It is for this reason that our programming is so eclectic and heterogeneous. As such, Cultura Inquieta will always offer in its agenda, music and short films with sculpture, and photography, and audiovisual projects, and DJ’s, and poetry, and workshops, and theatre and so on and so on.
We believe, and also defend, that art and culture must be within the reach of everyone, without distinction. We do not care about age, creed or the passport you carry and where art and culture concerns us, we go out of our way to make sure it is as economically accessible as possible. The festival we hold during the summer in The City of Getafe, which we consider the heart and soul of Cultura Inquieta, is the best example of this with tickets to all the activities at unashamedly attainable prices. We call this highly recommendable encounter “Cultura Inquieta: Festival of black music and visual arts.
Cultura Inquieta’s range of activities is diverse. We combine our presence in the network via our magazine, podcasts, social networks and even this very website, with what really excites us the most; live events in different cities all culminating in our grand celebration, The Festival.
We strongly encourage you to come along and participate in any of the activities Cultura Inquieta offers, but especially the festival during summer in Getafe. The atmosphere and the energy that it generates are truly magical. Four weeks of uninterrupted programming with live black music at the heart of the festivities.
